Robert "Bob" Hammer, 78, of Charles City, died Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at his home in Charles City.

According to family wishes there will be no services.

Robert LeRoy Hammer, the son of Oscar and Mildred (Knowlton) Hammer, was born on August 5, 1936 in Lady Smith, Wisconsin. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1954. Then he went on to receive his Associates of Arts through NIACC. For many years Bob worked at the Salsbury Laboratories in Charles City. Soon after graduation he served his country in the Air Force from 1954-1958. After retirement he was proprietor of Hammer Hardware store.

Bob married Deniece Yerks on August 10, 1956 in Morning Side, Maryland. To this union they were blessed with four children. He was a very hardworking man, not only through his work history but he also built two houses. Bob was very active in the community, loved school sports, (especially wrestling), was in various Community Theater plays and loved animals, especially cats.

His love grew through the community and within his family. Every year his family took a trip to Gays Mills Apple Orchard. He was a member of the Elks, Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Charles City Booster Club.

Living family members include his wife of 58 years, Deniece Hammer of Charles City; four children; Deb (Kipp) McLean of Mesa, Arizona, LeeAnn Exline of Charles City, Nancy (Ed) Kracht of Apache Junction, Arizona, and Pattie Hammer of Charles City; a grandson, Brennan Hammer of Phoenix, Arizona; a granddaughter, Cassidy Hammer of Mason City; a great granddaughter, Adrianne Hammer Casler; a sister, Sally (Richard) Lehman of Aurora, CO; a brother, Oscar (Roberta) Hammer of Aurora, CO; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nancy "Jane" Hobert.
