HAYNES OFFICIATES AT SERVICES HELD IN NORA SPRINGS CHURCH

Nora Springs – Funeral services were held in the Sheckler Funeral Home in Nora Springs at 2:30 Friday afternoon for Charles A. “Loss” Whitesell , 90, who died at the home of his nephew Roy Whitesell, Wednesday following a heart attack.

Stanley Hayes of Mason City, pastor of the Church of Christ in Nora Springs, conducted the services. The casket bearers were V. F. Atherton, Raymond Rookey, L. W. Fingelson, Leonard Wrench, Dick Hoffstettler and Harry Benedict of Mason City.

Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Moody sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “In the Garden.” Floral arrangements were in charge of Mrs. Mildred Bumgardner and Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Rader.

Charles Whitesell was born February 7, 1852, in a log house on the same farm where his death occurred Wednesday. The farm is a mile and a half south of Nora Springs. He observed his 90th birthday in February. He was one of five children of Nancy and Daniel Whitesell, all of his immediate family having preceded him in death.

His parents came to Nora Springs in 1852, the year of his birth. His boyhood was spent here. He was away from Nora Springs for 35 years, his work taking him to Mexico, Canada, and through the entire United States. The last 15 years of his life had been spent here.

He is survived by a niece, Nell Whitesell, and a nephew, Roy Whitesell.

Interment took place in Rock Grove Cemetery, south of Nora Springs.
