NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Dwight A. Alden Sr., 80, of Nora Springs, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (March 18, 2015) at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 101 North Hawkeye, Nora Springs, with Pastor David Werges officiating, with luncheon following at Maritz's E-Keg. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Riceville.

Visitation, with viewing, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, (March 17, 2015) at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 North Hawkeye, Nora Springs.

Memorial contributions can be directed to the family and cards sent to Tom Alden, 113 North Hooke, Nora Springs, Iowa, 50458.

Dwight was born on the family farm to Roy and Lottie Clare (Walker) Alden on April 6, 1934. He worked on the family farms and was employed by Decker & Sons Meat Packing Plant for many years. He was later employed by Suburban Refuse, where he worked until his retirement.

In 1945, he married Darlene Joan Pint and to this union seven sons were born: Roy from Dumont, Jerry (Rhonda) from Goleta, CA, Rick (Donna) from Garner, Tom (Val) from Nora Springs, Rex (Darlene) from Galt, CA, Steve and Dwight, Jr., both from Nora Springs.

In his younger years, Dwight and his sons enjoyed coon hunting and fishing together. He was known for his passion for vegetable gardening. Not only did he can and enjoy the bounty of his garden every year, but generously shared his vegetables with family and friends.

Dwight Alden is survived by his seven sons and their families, including 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Ethel, Marilyn, Larry, Garry, Frances, and Bonnie; as well as numerous other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene Alden; and his siblings, Charles, Melvin, Darlene, and Darwin.
