ROCKFORD, IOWA - Robert “Bob” A. Lohr, 94, of Rockford, Iowa, died on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs, Iowa.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Fullerton Funeral Home, 302 West Main, Rockford.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., with a one hour prior visitation on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, 21 Third St. N.W., Rockford. Pastor Judy Wooton will be officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

Robert “Bob” Alvin Lohr was born on August 6, 1920 in Rockford, Iowa, to Alvin and Elsie (Roehr) Lohr. He was the oldest of three children, and graduated from Rockford High School in 1938. As an adult, Bob owned three homes in Rockford, all within four blocks of his birthplace. Until he moved to Nora Springs in 2012, Bob was Rockford’s oldest living lifetime resident.

On November 1, 1939, Bob was united in marriage to Marlys Wilson in Mason City. They were proud parents of four children and celebrated 67 years of marriage.

Prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor, Bob worked in aircraft plants in Southern California and Omaha, Nebraska. He returned to Rockford to help build the Hemp plant and worked there before being drafted in 1944 into the U.S. Navy where he honorably served for two years.

Bob owned and operated the Rockford Mill for 32 years and during those years he was a member of the Rockford Volunteer Fire Department and served eight years on both the Rockford School Board and the Rockford City Council. Bob was an original Board member of the Rockford Manor, helped develop the Rockford Golf and Country Club, and was instrumental in establishing the Floyd County Conservation with their first project fixing the deteriorating Rockford Dam. Bob was also a proud member of the American Legion for 65 years and a lifetime member of the Rockford First United Methodist Church.

Bob and Marlys wintered in Arizona for 28 years and together they enjoyed traveling, playing golf and bridge, fishing and attending college and professional sporting events.

Preceding Bob in death are his wife Marlys, son Don, parents Alvin and Elsie Lohr, brother and sister-in-law Richard and Dorothy Lohr, brother-in-law Dale Brallier, and niece Debbie Donner.

Those who will greatly miss and cherish Bob’s memory are his two daughters Sharon Ginther and Bobbi (Bob) Stubbs, son Jack Lohr, and sister Phyllis Brallier. He is also survived by four grandchildren Marty (LeAnn) Ginther, Scott (Debbie Davidson) Ginther, Laurie (Kevin) Carlson, and Jill (George) Nicolich; six great-grandchildren Colter (Sheldon) Ginther, Cory (Megan) Ginther, Lacey (Kyle) Waller, Toni (Anthony) Bradford, Tyler (Gabrielle) Ginther, and Johnnie (Erin) Riser; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Bob will also be missed by four nieces, one nephew, and numerous other relatives and friends.
