Dorothy Ann Woods Osterman was born January 12, 1920, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of James (Lafe) and Iva (Adams) Woods. Her Father, Lafe, was killed in a fishing accident on the Cedar River near Fairbank in 1923. The children were orphaned by their mother and placed in the Lutheran Childrens Home in Waverly where they resided until the age of 16.

On May 30, 1939 she was united in marriage to Herman Osterman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Dorothy owned and operated the Sunrise Guest Home in Fredericksburg. She had lived on the farm East of Charles City until her retirement at which time she moved into Charles City. She was a devout member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Her interests included her love of flowers, a Lincoln Town Car, fishing with Terry and Sandra, international traveling, watching WWF wrestling and cooking for her family. Dorothy would judge how well she felt by how much work she could do in a day. She always looked forward to spending time with her family and sharing life's experiences with them, and fully enjoyed her dog, Buffy.

Living family members include three children, Jack (Andi) Ostermann of Baldwin City, Kansas, Sue (Charles) Allen of Rockford and Terry (Mark) Wenthe of Altoona; a son-in-law, Sherron Ploeger of Charles City; 12 grandchildren; Cathy Sanders, Chris Allen, Jennifer (Larry) Ross, Sherri (Scott) Niles, Shawn (Stephanie) Ploeger, Shelli (Bill) Cagley, Joseph (Melissa) Ostermann, Julie (Bill) Robbins, Andrew (Amy) Wenthe, Matthew Wenthe (fiancée Heather Ritter), Elizabeth (Jake) Moore and Adam Wenthe; 19 great grandchildren; Kale, Dillan and Keaton Ross, Tyler Robbins, Nathan and Nickolas Cagley, Devon and Caleb Wenthe, Madison and Cody Wenthe, Avah and Calvin Moore, Joshua and Isabelle Ploeger; Samatha, Sarah, and Stacy Niles; and Olivia and Isabelle Ostermann; and a sister Mildred (Mig) Govig.

Memorials may be directed to cancer research at Mayo Clinic or C&W Rustic Hollow/SNAP in Nashua.
