Duane 'Dewey' Schrage - Charles City

Duane “Dewey” Leroy Schrage CHARLES CITY, IOWA: Duane Leroy Schrage, 58, died Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at his residence in Charles City. Funeral services for Duane will be at 2:30 PM on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marble Rock with Pastor Bob Scheurer and Pastor Gary Hedding officiating. Interment will be in Westside Cemetery in Marble Rock. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, February 6, 2015 at Retz Funeral Home 519 N 1st Street, Greene. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Saturday.

Duane Leroy Schrage was born June 25, 1956 in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Dora Mae (Christensen) and the late Edwin Paul Schrage. He received his education in public school, graduating from Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock in 1974. He attended Ellsworth Community College where he received his Associate in Arts (Retail Management) degree.

Duane spent his years in retail working for both Kum & Go and Easter’s in Charles City. He was later employed by Zoetis where he packaged medications for agricultural purposes. He also had numerous other jobs throughout his life.

Duane was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, the Elks Club and Moose Lodge. He enjoyed collecting toy machinery, attending country music concerts, and playing practical jokes on his nieces. He also enjoyed helping out his neighbors by shoveling snow and mowing lawns.

Duane is survived by his mother, Dora, of Marble Rock; his brother, Philip (Carol) Schrage, Marble Rock; three nieces: Brittany (fiancé Mike Paulus), Marble Rock; Lindsay (boyfriend Sam Wetter), Rockwell; Courtney (fiancé Matt Schaefer), Sheffield; one uncle, Linus (Sandy) Schrage, Charles City; one aunt, Bernice Tapley, Elma; several cousins; and his loyal cat, Pebbles.

Duane was preceded in death by his father, Edwin, and his grandparents: Clarence and Valda Schrage and Marshall and Irma Christensen.
