Service: Friday, February 6, 2015 at 10:30 a.m.; Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Lois Heddens, 86, of Charles City, died Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Lois Heddens will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Paul Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday and at the church Friday an hour prior to the service.

Lois Rae Slinger Heddens was born December 7, 1928, in Floyd County, the daughter of Harold G. and Mary (Waidelich) Slinger. Her mother died when she was three years old and she made her home with her grandmother Mary Slinger and step grandfather Ernest Alcott. She attended Charles City Schools and graduated from high school in 1947. Lois worked in the office at the Oliver for five years.

On October 10, 1948, she was united in marriage to Ralph E. Heddens at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. They started farming in 1952 and moved from Charles City to a new home located on the Heddens Farm in Riverton Township. She was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Waverly Chapter, The Mayflower Society, Howland Society and Floyd County Historical Society. Lois was also a Sunday School teacher, choir member, Bible School teacher, on the Stewardship Board, Past President of Tabitha, Past President of WELCA, Cedar Valley Genealogical Society Founding President, Past President of Colonical/Dames Mason City, Iowa State Genealogical Society, DAR Alden Sears Chapter of Charles City as Past Regent and Registrar, Floyd County Historical Board of Directors, 4-H Leader and County Committee Member, Nashua Town and Country Board of Directors and Genealogical Reacherer for 30 years.

Lois had many interests including tracing family back many generations, music-soloist in high school, church, and singing for many weddings and funerals. She was an active Curler at the Nashua T&C, attended auctions, collecting antiques, playing Bridge and 500. She and Ralph did extensive traveling and she enjoyed fishing with him. Her main interest was always her loving family who will miss her greatly.

Living family members include 4 children, Jon D. (Eija) Heddens of Centralia, Wash., David R. (Dee) Heddens of Alton, Thomas B. (Julie) Heddens of Charles City and Mary Elizabeth "Libby" (Greg) Johnson of Independence, Mo.; ten grandchildren: Liisa (Suchy), Tanya (Johnson), Levi (Amy), Ryan, Travis, Jenny, Dustin and Brent Heddens and Brandi and Lauren Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Lilli and Samuel Johnson and Ari Heddens; siblings, Pat (Gene) McCauley, Marilyn (Harlan) Kolb, Joyce Wittlake, Jack (Zelda) and Terry (Sandra) Slinger; and numerous relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ralph on January 29, 2014.
