CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Lucile Duncan, 98, of Charles City, died Sunday, December 28, 2014, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015, at the First Congregational Church, Charles City, with Pastor Forrest Cornelius officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Cemetery at Nashua.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Lucile Duncan, 98, of Charles City, died Sunday, December 28, 2014 at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Lucile Anne Duncan, the daughter of Frederick and Mina (Goodner) Liggett, was born June 27, 1916 on the family farm near Nashua. She was raised on the family farm, attended country school and graduated from Nashua High School. Lucile continued her education at the Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls receiving her teaching certificate.

She began teaching in Colwell while staying with a local family. Lucile taught in Colwell for over 20 years as a regular teacher and was a substitute teacher in both Colwell and Charles City.

On June 4, 1936, she was united in marriage to Donald George Duncan at the Colwell Congregational Church. The couple made their home on a farm East of Colwell. Their union was blessed with the adoption of their son, Bob, in 1941. Donald died in 1970 and shortly after his death, Lucile moved to Colorado. She also lived in Arizona before moving back to Charles City in 1999.

Lucile attended services at First Congregational Church in Charles City. She enjoyed square dancing, playing cards (especially 500) and gardening. Lucile was a Past President of the PTA in Colwell and a member of the Colwell Culture Club that met on Thursday's. She loved getting together with her family and sharing special time together.

Living family members include her son, Bob (Rita) Duncan of Charles City; four grandchildren: Jeffrey Duncan of Dahlgren, Virginia, Bill (Marsha) Duncan of Charles City, Patricia (Frank) Putney of Spring Grove, Illinois and Wendi Duncan of Charles City; six great-grandchildren: Ryan Duncan, Jessica Putney, Sarah Putney, Samantha Putney (fiancé Danny), Jesse Alderman and Myckaela Alderman; along with nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; and three sisters: Marian Liggett, Laura (Rex) Longhorn and one sister in infancy.
