FLOYD, IOWA - Dennis Bast, 58, of Floyd, died Saturday, December 20, 2014, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services for Dennis Bast will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hauser Funeral Home. Pastor Martha Bennett of Grace United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at Floyd.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and an hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Dennis Calvin Bast was born July 29, 1956, at Charles City, the son of Donald and Marvolyn (Chandler) Bast. He graduated from Nashua High School in 1974 and attended Northeast Iowa Community College at Calmar.
On April 12, 1991, he was united in marriage to Darcy Hejna. Over the years Dennis was employed at various places. In 2001, he became the yard man for Northern Country Coop’s Lumber Division at Stacyville, moving into the office where he eventually became assistant manager. Dennis made lifelong friends while employed there. He will be remembered for putting the needs of his customers as a top priority.
Dennis could be found working with his son in the garage, gardening or spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed interacting with children and conversing with the elderly. His humor, kindness and willing hands and listening ears will be missed by all.
Living family members include his wife of 23 years, Darcy Bast of Floyd; two children, Denise and special friend Elliot Bintliff of Spearfish, South Dakota, and Dallas and special friend Kendra Thomas of Floyd; his mother, Marvolyn Bast of Nashua; three siblings, Daniel (Peggy) Bast of LaPorte City, David (Vicky) Bast of Nashua and Donna (Tom) Cavanaugh of Storm Lake; his in-laws, Ed and Connie Hejna of Floyd; brother-in-law, Bob (Ranae) Hejna of Floyd; “adopted” niece, Heather (Paul) Becthold of Nashua; seven nieces and nephews; seven great-nieces and nephews; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; and his father on January 9, 2014.
The Hauser Funeral Home, (641) 228-2323, in Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.
