Eugene “Gene” Diercks

CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Eugene "Gene" Diercks, 64, of Charles City, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A memorial service for Gene Diercks will be held 3 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2014, at the Hauser Funeral Home. Pastor Matthew Lucio from the Seventh-day Adventist Church will officiate.

Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Friends may call one hour prior to the memorial service at the funeral home on Monday.

Eugene Fredrick Diercks, the son of Harold and Arlene (Bill) Diercks, was born May 6, 1950, in Charles City. He was raised in Charles City, graduated from Charles City High School and attended NIACC. In October 1969, Gene married Cathy Caspers. This union was blessed with two children, David and Tina. The couple later divorced. Gene served in the Army from 1969 to 1972 as a member of the 82nd Airborne.

On October 27, 1990, Gene was united in marriage to Ruth Jacobs. The couple made their home in Charles City. For the past 34 years, Gene has worked for the Amoco/Dome/BP/Kinder Morgan Pipeline as operations manager. He was in charge of several hundred miles of the pipeline.

Gene loved fishing, camping, dancing, roller skating, water skiing and the Minnesota Vikings. He used to play on a men’s softball league and bowling league. Gene was also a member of the American Legion.

Living family members include his wife, Ruth of Charles City; children: David (Leah) Diercks of Charles City and Tina Johnson (Brad McGee) of Mason City; step-children: Rika Cummings (Cole Schmidt) and Roger Mathers all of Charles City; his mother and step-father, Arlene (Ken) Carr of Charles City; sister, Cathy (Pat) Paulus of Kingsland, Georgia; step-brothers: Ken (Sherry) Carr of Clear Lake and Denny (Gloria) Carr of Charles City; half-brother, Douglas (Donna) Diercks of Florida; grandchildren: Calli Diercks, Reid Johnson, Alexia Ungacta, Austin Cummings and Joseph Cummings; along with many aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold.
