TRAER, IOWA - Ruth Anne Freeburg, 61, formerly of Traer, died Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, Iowa.

She was born September 20, 1952, in Charles City, daughter of the Rev. Dr. Gordon Neil Freeburg Sr. and Dr. Rosanne Crichton Geldert Freeburg.

Ruth graduated high school from Davenport West in 1970, and then served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1972, and in the Army Reserves for many more years. She worked as a registered nurse in Vinton, Iowa City, Traer and Cedar Rapids.

Survived by a son, Jason (Jessica) Burroughs of Grundy Center; a daughter, Jaime Burroughs of Cape Cod, Mass.; four grandchildren: Kassidy, Austin, Brittany and Ava Ann; her mother; two brothers, Dr. William John (Margaret) Freeburg and Gordon Neil (Laura) Peterson; and two sisters, Merrilee Freeburg (Paul) Tomlinson and Minnetta Freeburg (Patrick) Costa.

Preceded in death by her father.

Services: 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, with burial and military rites at Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center. Overton Funeral Home, Traer, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Ruth loved crafts, gardening, fishing, camping, running and other outdoor activities.
