Johannes Levinus Nelson was born December 21, 1877 on a farm at Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa to Niels Aadsen Himle Nelson and Inga Ivarsdatter Syse, the seventh of their nine children.

Johannes was baptized on January 27, 1878 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. His baptismal sponsors were: Lars Iver Syse Olsen; Martha Ivarsdatter Syse Olsen and Britha Ivarsdatter Syse Olsen.

Found in the 1880 census at Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa; Nels O. Nelson 38, Enga Nelson 38, Iver Nelson 14, Kate Nelson 11, Emma Nelson 9, Albert Nelson 6, Emelia Nelson 4, John Nelson 2, Ella Johnson 15, Catherine. Knudeson 25.

Johannes died November 5, 1880 at Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa and was buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.
