Dorothy June Nelson was born September 30, 1928 at rural Rudd, Floyd, Iowa (obituary says Osage, Iowa) to Ervin Arthur Nelson and Mabel Lundene, the third of their four children. Dorothy was baptized on November 25, 1928 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. Her baptismal sponsors were: Mr & Mrs Albert Oscar Nelson; Stella Peterson and Clifford Larson.

Found in the 1930 census living at Rudd, Floyd, Iowa: Ervin A Nelson 31, Mabel Nelson 31, Avery E Nelson 7, Doris J Nelson 3 yrs 2 mos,Dorothy J Nelson 1 yr 6 mos.

Found in the 1940 census at Waterloo, Black Hawk, Iowa: Ervin Nelson 41, Mabel Nelson 42, Ivery E Nelson 17, Doris J Nelson 13, Dorothy J Nelson 11, Alton M Nelson 9.

Dorothy married Donald Burke on September 4, 1948 at Waterloo, Black Hawk, Iowa. The couple had 8 children.

Dorothy Burke died January 28, 2012 at Machesney Park, Winnebago, Illinois and was buried at the Sunset Memorial Gardens, Winnebago, Illinois.

Dorothy J. Burke, 83, of Machesney Park, IL was welcomed into heaven Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, in her home, surrounded by her family.

Born Sept. 30, 1928, in Osage, Iowa, and daughter to Ervin and Mabel (nee Lundene) Nelson. She married Donald Burke on Sept. 5, 1948, and together raised eight children. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, she was also known for her kindness, patience, warm smile and sense of humor.

Survived by sons, Thomas (Dina) of Augusta, KY, Dennis and Charles (Erin) of Rockford; daughters, Teresa (Andy) Berman of MN, Debra (Jerry) Robinett of Cherry Valley, Connie (Alan) Fagerstrom and Shelly Burke of Machesney Park and Susan Burke of Moline; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Pre-deceased by parents; husband; brother Avery, Alton Nelson; and sister, Doris (Bob) Clute.

Service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, Rockford Chapel, Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
