CLEAR LAKE, IOWA - Kay Frances (Steelman) Carrott, 75, Clear Lake, died Tuesday, November 18, 2014, at the Manly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Manly.

A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Nov. 21, Friday, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Ed Bard officiating, Chaplin of Hospice of North Iowa. A gathering of friends and family will be from 12:30 p.m. until the service. Inurnment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery. According to her wishes, she has has been cremated.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kay F. Carrott Memorial Fund in care of the family, the Parkinson Disease Foundation or North Iowa Hospice.

Kay was born in Dumont on February 28, 1939, to Roy and Beth (Springer) Steelman. In Kay's early years she attended several different schools and graduated from Rockford High School with the class of 1957. Following graduation, Kay continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.

Kay was united in marriage to Robert Carrott on September 9, 1958, at First Methodist Church in Rockford. This union was blessed with three children: Rodney, Brenda and Brian.

Kay worked at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls, helping to put her husband through college and later was employed part-time doing piece work for P.T. Castle Cap and Gown of Clear Lake. She also worked for the Clear Lake Medical Group for several years, the E.F. Johnson CB Radio Co., and Unisys Corp. in Clear Lake, retiring from there when they closed production in the early 1990s. She drove a delivery van for several courier companies based in Clear Lake, taking full retirement in 1995.

She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with the many activities they were in. She also volunteered at the City Beach giving swimming lessons for several years. She was an avid antique collector, buying and selling throughout the years. She was co-owner of several rental properties during the 1980s until the early 2000s.

Kay and Bob enjoyed the winter traveling through the Sun Belt and points of interest along the way with the motorhome. Being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and other associated ailments of Lewy Body Dementia the traveling adventures had to be curtailed.

Those grateful in sharing her life are husband Bob, son Rodney (Kim) Carrott and their children Kirsten (Drew) Saforek, Jaime (Addison) Riebkes and great-granddaughter McKenna, and Jared, all of Ankeny; daughter Brenda (Craig) Molencamp, Colorado Springs, Colo., and their children Aaron (Christina) of Pueblo, Colo., and Amanda (Scott) Kearney, Henderson, Colo.; son Brian (Susan) Carrott and their children Kaylea Carrott, great-grandchildren Aiden and Aynslea, Ames, and Ryann (Tyler) Johnson, Ames.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Beth Steelman, brother Clinton, in-laws Lyle and Irene Carrott and several aunts and uncles.
