DIED ON WEDNESDAY
Dean Heffron, 57, a 30-year veteran of the Osage Police Department, including seven years as Chief of Police, died at home on Wednesday, April 13, 1983.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage, Iowa, with the Rev. J. Roth officiating. Burial was at the Osage Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Osage VFW Post 7920 and the Osage American Legion 278. Champion Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Dean Heffron was born in Niles Township, Floyd county, Iowa, on September 22, 1925, to Warren and Veda (Bassett) Heffron. He attended the Charles City schools and served in the Army during World War II. Upon returning home, he worked at Oliver Equipment Co. He served as Chief of Police from 1954 to 1961, resigning due to ill health. He continued to serve as a police officer until his death.
Dean was married to Dorothy Paulus, of Charles City, on June 19, 1946, in Charles City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; four daughters: Kathie Heffron of Forest City, Mrs. Debbie Jacobs, Cherie Newhouse and Mrs. Julie Wilde, all of Osage; four grandchildren, and one brother, Francis of St. Ansgar.
