MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Esther Green, 80, of Marble Rock died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at Chautauqua Guest Home, No. 3, in Charles City.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton with the Rev. Karl Bollhagen presiding. Interment will be in Sunnyside Memory Garden in Charles City.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. First St., Greene.

Esther Mae (Arends) Green died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at the 9th St. Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Esther Mae Green - Marble Rock

Esther Mae (Arends) Green was born on December 15, 1933, in Parkersburg, Iowa, the daughter of Jans Siebe and Etta (De Raad) Arends and died Sunday, September 21, 2014, at the 9th St. Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, Iowa. She grew up in Marble Rock and received her education in public school, she went on to earn her G.E.D. while in Arkansas.

She was employed as a secretary for eight years for International Paper and was church secretary for Missouri Lutheran Church in Springdale, Arkansas for several years.

Esther was united in marriage to Clifton Boom in 1953. Clifton died in 1969. Esther then married Howard Green on December 30, 1984.

Esther was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton while in Iowa and attended the Missouri Lutheran Church while in Arkansas. She attended women’s circle at church and was an Axillary Member for Post 387, American Legion of Marble Rock.

She enjoyed playing cards, listening to country music, pets (especially her cat, Tippy), going out to eat and family gatherings. She was a devoted wife and sibling whose life centered on God and family.

Esther is survived by her husband, Howard; stepchildren: Pamela K. (Wilbur) Gallion, Spokane, Washington, Mike (Robin) Green, West Fork, Arkansas, David (Linda) Green, Russellville, Arkansas, Rebecca (Jay) Newkirk, West Fork, Arkansas, Elisebeth (Luis) Jorge, Fayetteville, Arkansas; 18 step-grandchildren, 28 step-great-grandchildren; Siblings: Edna King, Marble Rock, John Arends, Rockford, Elizabeth Tegtmeier, Marble Rock, Elmer (Elisabeth) Arends, Nashua, Gary Arends, Waterloo, Roger Arends, Charles City, Mary Jane Pickett, Marble Rock, many friends both in Marble Rock and Springfield, Arkansas.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jans and Etta Arends, Siblings: John Siebe Arends at five years old, Ervin Tegtmeier, Maryls Arends, Kenneth Pickett, Donald (Valeta) Arends and Carroll King.
