Merrick J. Ward succumbs at 99; Rites Saturday
MARBLE ROCK -- Merrick J. Ward, 99, died Thursday at the Harris Nursing Home where he had been a patient several years. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock. Burial will be in *Riverside Cemetery.
Born June 17, 1864, he had lived in the Marble Rock area since childhood. He belonged to the Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge and served many years as a township trustee.
Surviving are two sons, Percy, McAllen, Tex., Cecil, Alamo, Tex., three grandchildren and eight great - grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and a [grand]son, Lynn, who was killed in World War II.
*NOTE: Merrick Ward was buried in Hillside Cemetery.

Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon, June 5th, in Reid's Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock, for Merrick J. Ward, 101, who passed away at the Harris Convalescent Home in Marble Rock on Thursday. Mr. Ward would have been 102 on June 17. Rev. Sheral Gregory of the Faith Baptist Church was in charge of the services.
Merrick Ward was born on June 17, 1864 and had lived in the Marble Rock area since childhood. He was a retired farmer. He married Belle Ackley on June 17, 1889 and after her death he lived alone as long as he was able and then went to live in the Harris Convalescent Home.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a five year old son, Lynn and a grandson, Lynn, who died in combat in World War II. He is survived by two sons, Percy of McAllen, Texas and Cecil of Alamo, Texas; three grandchildren, Quaife Ward of Evanston, Illinois, Mrs. Isabel Connel of Iowa City, and Cecil's daughter, Shirley, in Texas; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Ward had been a member of the Masonic Lodge in Marble Rock for over sixty years.
Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock.
