Influenza Fatal to Mrs. Merrick Ward Tuesday Afternoon

To Hold Funeral Services At Methodist Church Tomorrow Afternoon; Burial in Marble Rock Cemetery

Mrs. Merrick Ward, life long resident of the Marble Rock community, died at her home there yesterday afternoon. She had been an invalid for many years as the result of diabetes which had caused the loss of her sight and later of one leg. Ten days ago she suffered an attack of influenza from which she failed to recover.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Methodist church in Marble Rock, of which she was a member, under the direction of the pastor, the Rev. Milton H. Nothdurf. Burial will be in the Marble Rock cemetery.

Isabelle Ackley was born April 13, 1867, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Ackley on a farm at the north edge of Marble Rock. She taught for several years in the rural schools of Floyd county and in the schools at Marble Rock.

She was married to Merrick Ward at the home of her parents, June 17, 1879, and the couple began housekeeping on a farm north of Marble Rock where they lived until 1918 when they moved to Marble Rock.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Percy A. Ward of Cedar Falls and Cecil P. Ward of Alamo, Texas; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Irene Nieman of Ava, Missouri, and Mrs. Nellie E. Brunner of Osage, and one brother, Asberry A. Ackley of Marble Rock.

One son Linn, died at the age of 5 and she was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and a brother.
