CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Eldon R. Hennick, 79, of Charles City died Saturday, August 23, 2014, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 30, at Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd. Pastor Martha Bennett and Pastor Jan Tjaden will officiate. Inurnment will be in Oakwood Cemetery at Floyd.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, and one hour prior to the memorial service at the church on Saturday.

The Hauser Funeral Home, 641-228-2323, Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.

Eldon R. Hennick, 79, of Charles City, died Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A memorial service for Eldon Hennick will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd. Pastor Martha Bennett and Pastor Jan Tjaden will officiate. Inurnment will be in Oakwood Cemetery at Floyd.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2014 and one hour prior to the memorial service at the church on Saturday.

Eldon Robert Hennick, the son of Willard and Golda (Wilson) Hennick, was born May 5, 1935 in Floyd, Iowa. He was raised in the Floyd area and attended school at the Floyd Consolidated School graduating in 1953.

Eldon was united in marriage to Marlene Anderson in 1954 and this union was blessed with five children. The couple later divorced.

Eldon was employed in the veterinary medicine field for 40 years, 17 of which were at Salsbury Laboratories. When he retired, Eldon farmed for 10 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Lions Club, Floyd Volunteer Fire Department, and was on the Floyd City Council. Eldon was also a Little League Coach, Boy Scout Master and volunteered for the Salvation Army ringing bells during the Christmas Season. He attended many churches through the years, but his roots are at Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd where his memorial service will be held.

Eldon was an outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt, work in the garden and travel, particularly when he would winter in Arizona. He enjoyed playing cards, cooking, baking and was an avid reader. Eldon treasured time with his family and friends and brought many laughs and great fun to any gathering in which he took part.

Living family members include his three sons: David Hennick of Evansdale, Timothy (Machelle) Hennick of Manchester and Dennis Hennick (special friend Lori Frank) of Floyd; two daughters: Marcia (Rick) Frascht of Hastings, Minnesota and Shelly (Ron) Krumwiede of Waverly; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Willard "Bud" (Marie) Hennick of Charles City and Ronald (Sandra) Hennick of Floyd; one sister, Vera Cerwinski of Nashua; along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Golda Hennick; sister, Wilma Hennick; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Wanda and Eldon Scott, Grace and Kenneth Stiles and Shirley and Virgil Erbe; and brother-in-law, Frank Cerwinski.
