Electa Gertrude (Parker) Friend Varner – February 7, 1898 – September 15, 1960

ELECTA VARNER SUCCUMBS TO HEART ATTACK

Charles City – Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Hauser Funeral Home for Mrs. Electa G Varner, 62, widow of Levi Varner. She died Thursday following a heart attack. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Mrs. Varner had been in failing health for the past five years. Her husband died December 24, 1951.

Born February 7, 1898 in Mitchell County, she was married to Levi Varner, July 23, 1920 in Charles City. (**note the marriage record states it was in Owatonna, Steele, Minnesota)

She is survived by two children from a former marriage; Albert Friend, San Fernando, California, and Mrs. Bessie DeVries, Red Wing, Minnesota, and five sons from her second marriage; Donald, Charles City; LeRoy and Robert, both of San Fernando, California, Earl, Mason City, and Gerald, LaPente, California; a brother Roy Parker, and two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Ward, both of Charles City, and Mrs. Ada Sutherland, Waterloo, 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Electa Gertrude Parker was born 7 Feb 1898 and died 15 Sept 1960. She was the daughter of Joseph Ackley Parker and Inza Louise Wilcox.

Her first husband was Bert Elmer Friend, the son of Jacob and Mary Friend. Bert’s 2nd wife was Josephine (?).

The son Albert mentioned in the above obit, birth record: Albert Ned Friend born January 28, 1914 in Charles City, son of Bert Elmer Friend and Electa Gertrude Parker-FHL Film Number 1481264). Albert died December 23, 1986 in Los Angeles, California.

The daughter mentioned in the obit above, Bessie Louise Friend was born April 22, 1916 in Charles City. She died September 15, 1998 in Hennepin County, Minnesota. She married Jacob DeVries.

Her second husband was Levi Varner. They were married on 12 July 1920 in Owatonna, MN
