MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Lewis Chambers, 90, of Marble Rock, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Liebe Care Center in Greene. Services will be at a later date.
Lewis James Chambers was born December 9, 1923, at Colwell, the son of Glen and Nellie (Hildebrand) Chambers. He received his education from rural Floyd County schools.
On May 18, 1948, he was united in marriage to Margaret Thompson at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. They farmed all of their lives near Marble Rock. Early in his life, Lewis also worked at Capital Tobacco.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.
Country living, farming, raising livestock and visiting with the boys at the Marble Rock Co-op were his everyday pleasures in life.
Lewis was a quiet, gentle man who enjoyed having his family home and watching his favorite westerns on television. Whether you called him Dad, Grandpa or Lew, we all knew of his quick wit and love of children.
Living family members include two children, Brian (Lorri) Chambers of Marble Rock, and Brenda (Jeff) Nordman, of Charles City; four grandchildren, Joshua (Hannah) Chambers, Seth Chambers, Emily Chambers and fiance Jordan Stowe and Kyle (Megan) LaBarge; two great- grandchildren, Keely and Mckinley Chambers; and two sisters, Dorothy Bill of Riceville and Marion Meek of Rochester, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret on January 31, 2014; four brothers, John, Roy, Wesley and Clayton Chambers; and two sisters, Edith Bill and Edna Ferch.

#2:MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - A memorial Mass for Lewis and Margaret Chambers of Greene, formerly of Marble Rock, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Roseville. Monsignor Walter Brunkan will celebrate the Mass. Inurnment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Roseville.
The family will greet friends at the Roseville School an hour prior to the Mass.
