Wilbur E. Heise, 87 of 602 11th St., Charles City, died Monday, December 26, 2005 at Mercy Hospice, Johnston.

Funeral services for Wilbur will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, December 30, 2005 at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 West Blunt St. Officiating will be the Rev. Linda Myren of the Little Brown Church, Nashua. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens with military flag folding and taps honors.

Memorial contributions in Wilbur's name may be considered to Mercy Hospice, 5820 Winwood, Dr. Johnston, IA 50131.

Wilbur was born on November 3, 1918, near Ionia, the son of Albert and Amanda "Harnisch" Heise. He attended rural schools near Ionia and Nashua until completing his education at Charles City. He graduated with an accounting major from Hamilton Business College in 1947. He honorably served his country in the Army Air-Corps entering the service on November 30, 1942. As a sergeant he was discharged from the service at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, on November 6, 1945. He farmed near Colwell and drove school bus from 1949 to 1976 when he moved to Preston. and continued farming and driving with the Belle View Community School until his retirement on May 31, 1990.

He married Arlene Smith on November 25, 1945, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She preceded him in death in June 2003. Wilbur was a member of the United Methodist Church in Preston and then joined the Little Brown Church when he returned to Charles City. He was also a member of the Charles City American Legion. He enjoyed walking in the outdoors and spending time driving his car looking at the countryside. He traveled to the Mississippi to fish as well as area rivers and ponds. He relished the chance to visit with family and friends.

Those thankful in sharing Wilbur's life include his daughter Barbara E. Conkel and her husband Sid, Saylorville; six grandchildren Debbie Buckner, Julie Belknap, Brent Conkel, Shane Heise, Nicole Bender, and Autumn Enright, eight great grandchildren, two sisters Florence and her husband Virgil Greenzweig, and Bernice Troge, all of Charles City and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are two brothers, one in infancy and Harold "Pete" Heise in 1997; his son Larry Heise in 1990; one niece Dawn Greezweig; and one sister Lucille Trappe in 2005.
