BERT JOHNSTON RITES PLANNED

Former Rockford Man Was Duesenberg Motor Company Employee

ROCKFORD - Graveside services will be held at Riverside cemetery here Monday noon for Bert Johnston, formerly of Rockford and employed in the Duesenberg Motor plant at Indianapolis, Ind., for the past 30 years. The Rev. C.G. Fort will be in charge.

Mr. Johnston died Saturday morning of a heart attack at his home in Indianapolis. He was 64.

Born at Greene, he grew up in Rockford and went to Indianapolis when the Duesenbergs, also of Rockford, established their factory in Indiana.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Peter Hemmer of Waterloo; four grandchildren, a sister, Ella Johnston of Waterloo, and two brothers, Lon and Jack, of Saskatchewan, Can.

DEATHS

BERT JOHNSTON

Bert Johnston, former Waterloo resident who moved to Indianapolis, Ind., 20 years ago, died there in General hospital at 12:43 a.m. Saturday, according to a message received by his wife, Mrs. Lillian Johnston, 1015 Cleveland street. He was 72 years old.

He was a son of John and Amelia Johnston and was born in 1869 at Greene, Ia.

Surviving besides the widow are a daughter, Mrs. P.J. Hemmer, 226 Kingsley avenue; a sister, Miss L. M. Johnston, 618 West Third street, and two brothers, Alonzo and John, living in Canada.

There is also a niece, Miss Olive Johnston, 618 West Third Street.

The body will arrive today at the Kearns Garden chapel and will be sent to Rockford, Ia. Mr. Johnston's former home for burial.
