NEW HAMPTON, IOWA — Lucille Kathleen Wilkins, 92, formerly of New Hampton, died Friday, November 16, 2012, at Windhaven Assisted Living, Cedar Falls.

She was born April 12, 1920, in Charles City, Iowa, daughter of Roy J. and Emma A. Scharping Wenig. She married Glenn W. Wilkins on June 19, 1943, at the Little Brown Church near Nashua. He died on April 1, 1994. She married Clarence Hildebrand on August 4, 2000.

She graduated from Charles City High School in 1938. She received a two-year upper elementary education degree in 1940 from Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, followed by teaching at Fairview-Consolidated School in Buena Vista County and Nora Springs. She received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1966 from the State College of Iowa and a master’s degree as a reading specialist in 1971 from the University of Northern Iowa. She taught reading at New Hampton Junior High School from 1966 to 1983. She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, New Hampton. She served as president of the New Hampton Federated Women’s Club and Chickasaw County Federated Women’s Club.

Survived by her husband; two daughters, Marilyn (Tom) Hughes of Frankfort, Kentucky, and Louise (Bob) Krogh of Waterloo; four grandsons, Steven (Elizabeth) Hughes of Louisville, Kentucky, Darrell (Sarah) Hughes of Hermitage, Tennessee, and Christian (Jessica) Krogh; and a great-grandson, Connor of Chicago, and Ryan (Jess) Krogh of Cedar Falls.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Congregational United Church of Christ, New Hampton, preceded by two hours of visitation, with burial in New Hampton Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Lucille loved to read and travel and never missed an opportunity to go and experience something new and different. She was a role model on how to live life to its fullest. She was very proud of her family. She is greatly loved and will always be remembered.
