CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Fred Davidson, 87, of Pella, formerly of Charles City, died Monday, April 7, 2014, at Comfort House in Pella.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, with Pastor Rusty Van Wey of First Wesleyan Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. Military honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hauser Funeral Home and an hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Fred Austin Davidson was born January 15, 1927, at Mannford, Oklahoma, the son of Roy and Elfa (Wallace) Davidson. He graduated from Hamburg High School. Fred proudly served in the United States Army during World War II.
On April 1, 1947, he was united in marriage to Betty Inman at Hamburg. They moved to this area in 1966. Fred worked for many years as a pressman at the Charles City Press and also was a Foster Grandparent with the Charles City School. He attended First Wesleyan Church and was a member of the American Legion. His interests included gardening, fishing, camping, painting and his dog, Sugar.
Living family members include seven children, Richard (Carol) Davidson of Loving, Texas, Michael (Rebecca) Davidson of West Des Moines, Fred (Rae Ann) Davidson Jr., Stephen Davidson of Rudd, John (Ava) Davidson of Pella, Rebecca (Melvin) Wigant of Charles City and David (Darla Ritter) Davidson of Charles City; 24 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty, on January 20, 2000; grandson, Stephen Davidson; grandson-in-law, Glen Davis; stepgrandson, Emerei Davis; three sisters and a brother.
