Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.Lee Riley, 89, of Charles City, Iowa, died Monday, April 7, 2014, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.
A funeral Mass for Lee Riley will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Elma.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday where a Prayer Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. and a Rosary led by the Knights of Columbus will be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the service.
Lee Thomas Riley was born January 8, 1925, on a farm near Elma, the son of Frank and Florence (Roche) Riley. He graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy at Elma in 1944. On November 24, 1949, he was united in marriage to Veronica Beecher. They farmed all their lives, moving to Charles City in 1962. Along with farming, he was a plumber for Gil White, Inc. for many years. Lee was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge, and Heritage Club. He was a farmer at heart and always enjoyed spending time at his farm and going to auctions. Family was always important to Lee and he looked forward to sharing life's experiences with them. He loved to help anyone in need, especially at Immaculate Conception School and Knights of Columbus. Lee will be remembered as a quiet, hardworking man who was loved by everyone he met.
Living family members include his wife, Veronica "Ronnie" Riley of Charles City; four children, Marilee (Al) McAlpin of Cedar Falls, Nancy (Curt) Jones of Decorah, Tom (Patti) Riley of West Des Moines and Kay (Steve) Schoon of Urbandale; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Josephine Riley of Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Gerald, Joe and Paul; and five sisters, Berniece, Grace, Helen, Marian and Frances.
