Lucille Deonne Gansen, 87, of Elma, Iowa, died Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton.

She was born June 11, 1926, in Nashua, daughter of Daniel and Iva Chambers Mahoney. She married Phillip Gansen on September 11, 1946, at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; he preceded her in death.

She graduated in 1944 from Charles City High School, and then moved to Washington, D.C., where she studied at the Pentagon to become a government clerk in the Quartermaster Corps. Later she returned to Charles City where she worked as a clerk in various catalog stores. In subsequent years she and her husband farmed in the Riceville and Elma areas. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and Rosary Society.

Survived by five sons, Phillip (Linda) and Daniel (Laura), both of Cedar Falls, William (Alice) of Toddville, Paul (Linda) of Alta Vista and Jon (Karri) of Mason City; a daughter, Ellen (Steve) Sanders of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carol (Mike) Sullivan of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, and Kathy (Jim) Cowlishaw of International Falls, Minnesota; a brother, Tom (Vicki) Mahoney of New Hope, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Timothy and Christopher; a great-granddaughter, Grace Gansen; and two sisters, Norma Jacobs and Alice Uecker.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church, Elma, with burial at a later date. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Conway-Markham Funeral Home, Elma, with a 4:30 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. scriptural wake service. Visitation also an hour before services Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Lucille enjoyed baking bread, gardening, fishing, crocheting, playing cards and games with family and friends and also spending time with her family.
