Date Of Death: April 2, 2014Lois Newman, 97, of Charles City died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Cedar Health in Charles City.
Graveside services for Lois Newman will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City. Sister Diana Blong from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church will officiate.
Lois Fay (Baldwin) Newman was born September 27, 1916, in Charles City, the oldest daughter of Edmond and Faith (Day) Baldwin. She attended school in Charles City.
Lois married Leo Newman on March 23, 1935, in Osage. This union was blessed with two girls, Shirley and Connie. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a charter member of Women of the Moose, the VFW Auxiliary and the Senior Citizen Center.
Lois worked twenty years at the Woolworth store from 1948 to 1968. She then moved to Harper's Ferry and worked in Lansing, Iowa, for two years before moving back to Charles City. Lois collected owls and Avon bottles and enjoyed decorating sweatshirts, traveling (even as far as Alaska) and square dancing.
Living family members include her sister, Helen Hirsch of Rockwell; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; three great-great-great-grandchildren; along with other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leo in 1969; two daughters: Shirley Herman and Connie Newman; grandson, David Herman; great-granddaughter, Amanda Herman; and four brothers: Burdette, Clark, Willis and Dwight Baldwin.
