NASHUA, IOWA - Garry Lee Barlow, 61, of Nashua, died at home Monday, December 9, 2013.

He was born January 16, 1952, in Charles City, son of Harold Allen and Helen Arlene Bennor Barlow. He married Debra Lodge on September 18, 1976, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Clarksville.

A 1970 graduate of Nashua High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard, Mr. Barlow operated a custom farming business, and was a Northrop King salesman. He was president of the Rural Fireman’s Association and of the Riverton Township Trustees.

Survived by his wife; a daughter, Amber (Seth) Harrison of Pleasant Hill; a son, Adam (Brittany) of Nashua; and two grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Linda Gabrielson; and an infant brother, Richard.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Nashua. Full military honors will be provided by Nashua VFW Post. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home - Olson Chapel, Nashua, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Obituary for Garry Lee Barlow

Garry Lee Barlow, age 61 of Nashua, died Monday December 9, 2013, at his home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday December 14, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Nashua with Pastor Okitakoyi Lundula officiating. Ruth Bierschenk will be the organist for the service with Brad and Cindy Hammes as vocalists.

Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua with Scott McGregor, Chet McGregor, Bob Beck, Dave Gersema, John Barnett, Ben Freidhof, Rob Hinton, and Dave Holstad as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Bast, Alvin Allison, Scott Lodge, Larry Lee Lodge, Don Miller, Gerald Smith, Johnny Schultz and Judy Bennor. Full military honors will be provided by the Nashua V.F.W. Post.

Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday December 13th at the Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home - Olson Chapel in Nashua. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Garry Lee Barlow was born January 16, 1952, in Charles City, Iowa the son of Harold Allen and Helen Arlene (Bennor) Barlow. He attended the Hogan Country School until the second grade before entering the Nashua School District. He was a 1970 graduate of the Nashua High School. During school he was active in 4-H including being the first baseman for the 4-H Softball Team. He also enjoyed his VocAg classes. On July 24, 1972, Garry joined the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged on July 23, 1978. During that time Garry started his custom farming business, and was a Northrup King salesman. He grew into his own farming operation, culminating with his son Adam joining him.

In 1974, Garry was introduced to Debra Lodge who lived in Nashua. They dated until September 18, 1976, when they were united in marriage, at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville, IA. To this union two children were born, Amber and Adam.

Garry was active in his community. He was President of the Rural Fireman’s Association, on the Five Star Coop board, a member of the Farm Service Agency committee, belonged to the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association and was a member of the Greenwood Cemetery Board. He also was the President of the Riverton Township Trustees, and served on the United Methodist Ad Board. He loved Massey Ferguson tractors and belonged to the Snowmobile Club.

Garry loved visiting with his neighbors and friends and being a member of the card club. He was a regular at the State and County Fairs enjoying all types of traveling including his regular Sunday drives to machinery dealerships. He had a love for car races, attending his kids activities, spending time playing with his grandchildren, and horseback riding. His years spent farming both before and with his son joining him, were special and treasured. His family and especially his grandchildren will forever miss his love, care and protection.

Garry is survived by his wife, Debra; daughter, Amber (Seth) Harrison of Pleasant Hill, IA; son, Adam (Brittany) Barlow of Nashua; two grandchildren, Lane Barlow and Genevieve Harrison; his mother-in-law, Mary Lodge of Nashua; three brother-in-laws, Larry Lee (Laura) Lodge of Kellogg, Iowa, Scott Lodge of Nashua and Wayne Gabrielson of Longmont, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Helen (Bennor) Barlow; sister, Linda Gabrielson; and brother, Richard Barlow in infancy
