#2:

CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Robert Tinius, 80, of Charles City, died on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Floyd County Medical Center.

Online condolences may be left at www.fullertonfh.com. Per Robert's request there will be no services.

Robert was born on May 12, 1933, in Ayshire to Hobert and Pauline (Lorenzen) Tinius. He was a graduate of Laurens High School, in Laurens. On August 18, 1952, he married the love of his life, Dolores, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Unto this union four children were born. Robert was in the Army from 1954-1956; before joining the army he enjoyed flying planes, so he trained as a paratrooper.

He worked construction most of his life. He owned and operated Tinius Construction in Charles City for 20 years. Robert built many buildings in Charles City, including Buy-Low gas station on the north end of town, Mills Plumbing and Heating, the Dollar Store building, on the east side of town he built the largest hanger at the airport, and the old Gil White building behind Superior Lumber. On the south side of town he built the two buildings that are Comp System Sales, Moose Lodge, Dairy Queen, the Veterinary Clinic, the first McDonalds, Bistro Restaurant, and more than 65 houses in Charles City.

Robert and Dolores moved to Branson, Missouri, where he owned/developed/built more than 140 condos on Table Rock Lake. Treehouse condominiums is quite a tribute to his “high school” education and self-taught on the job training.

Robert and Dolores attended church and were members for many years at First Congregational Church. He was a past president of Area Development Board. Robert enjoyed playing golf, reading and was an active computer user from the Internet to Facebook, which he loved. He really liked to be Facebook friends with his grandchildren and commented on their posts.

He was also famous for his non-traditional Christmas letters. He wanted to be called “Grumpa” by the grandchildren; it put a smile on his face. Robert was a hard worker and will be missed by all who knew him.

Robert is survived by his wife of 61 years Dolores, daughters, Gayle (Tom) Brunner of Charles City, Barb (Rick) Burton also of Charles City, Deb Tinius (Dick Miller) of Morton, Illinois, and son Jason (Rebekah) Tinius of Columbia, Mo. He is also survived by his sisters, Avie Bombard and Marlene Pannkuk, his 10 grandchildren: Rich (Janice), Greg (Carin), Amy, Kurt (Jen), Kelli (Eric), Adam, Taji, Ty, Jona, and Henry, four great-grandchildren: Jadyn, Cade, Mya and Greyer, and many nieces and nephews. Robert will be missed by the family dog, Emry.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Jean Kyle and brother Roger Tinius.

Those planning on an expression of sympathy are asked to direct memorials to Charles City YMCA, P.A.W.S or a place of their choice in his name.
