CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Steven “Steve” Apel, 43, of Charles City, died Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday at Bethany Alliance Church, Charles City, with Pastor Kent Sovine officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the BAC Shack across from Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City. There will be visitation Monday at the church an hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.

Hauser Funeral Home, 641-228-2323, in Charles City, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hauserfh.com .

Steven ‘Steve’ Apel

Steven “Steve” Apel, 43, of Charles City, Iowa, died Sunday, March 9, 2014, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Steve Apel will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday at Bethany Alliance Church. Pastor Kent Sovine will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

Steven Ervin Apel was born April 11, 1970, at Charles City, the son of Ronald and Linda (Hovey) Apel. He received his education at Charles City. Over the years Steve worked as a contractor along with being a caretaker at Sunnyside Memory Gardens. His interests included hunting, fishing and whittling sticks. Another one of his interests included restoring cars. He was currently restoring a car for his son Caedyn. Steven was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all, especially by Caedyn and Brett.

Living family members include two sons, Caedyn Apel at home and Brett Cagley of Charles City; a granddaughter, Braelyn Cagley; special friend, Jennifer Huffman and her children of Colwell; father, Ronald Apel of Charles City; sister, Lisa Apel and fiance Joe Miller of Charles City; brother, Chad (Shannon) Apel of Blooming Prairie, Minn.; three nephews, Logan, Levi and Jordan (Megan) Apel; niece, Laciann Apel; great nephew Hunter Apel; grandmothers, Lorraine Eckenrod and Kathy Hovey; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother; and grandfathers, Richard Eckenrod, Kenneth Hovey and Ervin Apel; and grandmother, Velda Apel.
