CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Lois Waid, 97, of Charles City, died Monday, March 10, 2014, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2014, at Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd. The Rev. Martha Bennett will officiate. Inurnment will take place at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City at a later date.

The family invites everyone to join them at Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd during the hours of 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2014, to celebrate her life and enjoy some of her favorite songs.

Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.

The Hauser Funeral Home, 641-228-2323, in Charles City, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hauserfh.com .

Lois Waid, 97, life long resident of the Floyd/Charles City area died peacefully surrounded by her loving family, from advanced Alzheimer's disease, on March 10, 2014 at the 11th St. Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A memorial service for Lois will be held on Monday, March 17 at 10:30 a.m. in Floyd, Iowa at the Grace United Methodist Church. Pastor Martha Bennett will officiate. Inurnment will take place at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City at a later date.

The family invites everyone to join them on Sunday, March 16 at Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd for an open house from 2-4 p.m. to celebrate Lois' life with memories and singing some of her favorite songs. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Lois Bucknell was born August 19, 1916 south of Floyd the daughter of Arthur and Anna Meek Bucknell. She attended school in Floyd and graduated in 1933. She was the last surviving class member of the Class of '33! On December 15, 1934 she was married to Earl (Tom) Waid and to this union three children were born, Garland Earl in 1935, Dianne Gail in 1948 and Timothy Alan in 1951.

In addition to being a farmer's wife, Lois hung wall paper and painted from age 18 to 85 taking great pride in her work! She was a life long member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Royal Neighbors of America, and played cards at the Floyd Community Center and the Charles City Senior Center. Lois grew big gardens and loved to can and freeze the produce. She enjoying cracking nuts and making quilts in the winter months and dancing with Tom on Saturday nights! She pitched fast-pitch softball for over 4 decades, but her true love was fishing! She didn't care if she got a bite either let alone landed a big one which she did several times! She loved cooking and baking for her family and friends, as well as beating them in a game of 500, or Michigan Rummy!

Living family members include daughter-in-law Eleanor Waid of Charles City; daughter Dianne Cardos (Bob Asleson) Littleton, Colorado; son Tim Waid, Floyd; half-sister and half-brother to Dianne and Tim, Mary Lou Dale and family Osage; and Robert (Jacqueline) Lack and family Osage; sister Irma Kay, Edgewood, Iowa. There are nine grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren; numerous Meek-Bucknell-Waid nieces, nephews and cousins; and so many friends!

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband Tom (1993); eldest son Garland (2000); two brothers Loren (Gracie) Bucknell and Clete (Gloria) Bucknell; three sisters Iola (Lawrence) Quinby, Elma (Ralph) Belknap and Doris (John) Aird.

Cards may be mailed to 2531 155th St., Floyd, Iowa, 50435. Memorials may be directed to the National Alzheimer's Association, or Floyd Grace United Methodist Church. The best living memorial you can give is to promote Alzheimer's awareness, in Lois' name.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Molnar and his staff for the many wonderful years of care and concern. And, the 9th St. and 11th St. Chautauqua Guest Home employees, especially the wonderful gals in the South Memory Loss Unit.
