SMITH:
At his home in this city, Sunday morning, May 5, 1895 of neuralgia of the heart, Abraham Smith, aged 82 years and 13 days.
Mr. Smith was born in Leicester, England, April 22, 1813; married Miss Sarah Harris, whose surviving son is a resident of this city. In 1847 the family came to this country, settling in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Here the wife died and he soon after moved to Springfield, Massachusetts where he again married, the lady being Roxanna Simons. Two daughters were born to this union, Mrs. William Lester, fo the city, and Mrs. E. A. Loper, who died a few months after marrying. Mrs. Smith died in 1859, and in 1862 Mr. Smith married Mrs. Sophia Slack, of Brooklyn, New York. One son was born to this union, Stephen G., who resides in this city. Mr. Smith's death was very sudden.
He was down town late Saturday afternoon, where we saw him, apparently in his usual health and vigor. A little after 2 o'clock the next morning, he was attacked with the neuralgia of the heart, and peacefully crossed the silent river. Mr. Smith was pre-eminently a man of affairs and up to within a few years of his death was active in busines. He was conspicuously honest and upright in all the relations of life, and leaves to his wife and children the heritage of an honorable name, besides a handsome story of this world's goods. He was an earnest member of the Baptist church.
The funeral took place at the Baptist church at 3:30 Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Mr. Beach conducting the services, assisted by Rev. T. M. Evans.
