CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Gladys L. Schultz, 96, of Charles City died Saturday, February 8, 2014, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Gladys Loretta Schultz, 96, of Charles City, died Saturday, February 8, 2014, at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Homes. Online condolences may be left at www.fullertonfh.com.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with a one hour prior visitation on Friday, February 14, 2014, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St., Charles City. The Rev. Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Nashua.

Gladys Schultz was born October 22, 1917, in rural Nashua to Joseph and Hazel Schultz. She grew up in the Nashua area and attended Hogan Country School through the eighth grade. Gladys was married to Jack Mahaffey and they later divorced. She worked 38 years for Salsbury Chemicals at various production positions, and retired in 1983.

Gladys enjoyed baking and eating out with family and friends. She never drove and always walked to her destination. Her hobbies included gardening flowers, dancing, and playing bingo. She liked quilting and made several quilts for her nieces and nephews. Gladys was a friendly person and was happy to meet new people.

She is survived by her sisters, Jean Hillman of Waterloo, Iowa, and Lucille (William) Allen of California; a brother, John (Margaret) Schultz of Charles City; numerous nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Gladys was preceded in death by her two daughters at birth, Phyllis Ann Mahaffey and Loretta Irene Mahaffey; sister, Josephine, in infancy; brothers, Darwood and Leroy Schultz; and her parents.
