DEATH NOTICE-

NASHUA, IOWA - Betty Spurbeck, 80, of Nashua, formerly of Charles City, died Friday, February 7, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services for Betty Spurbeck will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Tim Robbins from Calvary Baptist Church in Charles City will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday.

Betty Spurbeck, 80, of Charles City, died Friday, February 7, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Funeral services for Betty Spurbeck will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Tim Robbins from Calvary Baptist Church in Charles City will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2014 and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday.

Betty Evon (Whitmarsh) Spurbeck was born on her grandparent's family farm on August 16, 1933 in Rolfe, Iowa. She is the oldest child of Leonard L. and Anna M. (Anderson) Whitmarsh. She had two brothers: Charles L. Whitmarsh of Readlyn, Iowa and Michael L. Whitmarsh of Arizona and two sisters: Loretta J. (Whitmarsh) Wiltse and her husband Orme of Charles City and Janise M. Whistmarsh of Waterloo.

Betty's family moved to Tipton, Iowa to a dairy farm from 1934-1939 before moving to New Hampton. She attended all the rural country schools around New Hampton, Elma, Orchard, Floyd, Colwell and ended her schooling at Nashua High School.

While in high school, Betty started working for Mrs. George Spurbeck's nursing home where she met her husband, Lynn W. Spurbeck. They were united in marriage on September 5, 1953 in Nashua at the Little Brown Church. From that marriage they had three children: Lynn, Robert and Cheryl. Lynn lives in Thompson, Iowa. Robert and his wife Donna and their children Nicole, Melinda and Robert Jr. are from Mason City. Cheryl and her husband Orvall J. Herman and children Sean, Collin, Chris and Shana are from Charles City. Betty is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren whom she loved all dearly.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Loretta and Janise; brother, Charles; and her loving husband, Lynn, Sr.
