Elgin Echo, Thursday, 16 July 1903.

Edward Rockezine, 22 years old, of Charles City, was drown in the Cedar River recently. Ed and Ralph Wilcox, two companions, were teaching him to swim when he suddenly became nervous and during the struggle which followed both the Wilcox boys were pulled under several times. They were completely exhausted and after getting on a sand bar called for help. The body of the unfortunate man was found in seven feet of water a short distance below where the struggle took place.
