Laura A. Powell, 94, of Waverly, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center.

She was born July 16, 1911, in Waverly, daughter of Henry F. and Elsia Miller Graeser. She married Gerald A. Riddle July 1, 1936, in Elk Port, South Dakota. He died in 1987. She then married Donald C. Powell September 1, 1990, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

She worked at a restaurant in Waverly and later for a large restaurant concern in Sioux City. She also ran a small restaurant in Chicago with her first husband and retired in the early 1980s.

Survived by her husband; a daughter, Jeri (Jay) Dess of Omaha, Nebraska; a stepson, Douglas (Peg) Powell of Ames; a stepdaughter, Nancy (Craig) Schmeiser of Cedar Falls; a grandson; five step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Elmer Graeser of Plainfield, Leonard (Shirley) Graeser of Waverly and Merle (Violet) Graeser of Horton; and four sisters, Helen Lillich of Waterloo, Florence Roberts of Batesville, Arkansas, Margaret (LaVerne) Jensen of Sioux City and Jeanette (Roger) White of Plainfield.

Preceded in death by a brother, Gilbert Graeser.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church, Shell Rock, with burial at 1:30 p.m. at Sunnyside Memory Gardens Cemetery, Charles City. Friends may call for an hour before services Tuesday at the church. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice-Waverly office or to the church.
