Dean Groshens, 83, of Charles City, died Monday, November 11, 2013, at the Floyd County Medical Center.

Funeral services for Dean Groshens will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hauser Funeral Home. Sister Diana Blong will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City. Military honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Dean Alfred Groshens was born April 15, 1930, in Woolstock, Iowa, the son of Paul Alfred and Hazel Eska (Payne) Groshens. Dean was a veteran of the Korean War where he served in the artillery battery of the Army, and he was honorably discharged in 1954.

Dean was united in marriage to Phyllis Marie Osier on January 14, 1956, in Greene, Iowa. He worked for Oliver and White Farm Equipment in Charles City until they closed, and then worked for Allied Construction until his retirement in 2002. Dean was a life member and past Quartermaster of the V.F.W. in Charles City. He enjoyed playing cards, dancing, reading and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Living family members include his three sons: Doug (Rhonda) Groshens of Rudd, Jerry (Kathy) Groshens of Plymouth and Tom Groshens of Bemidji, Minn.; grandchildren: Terri Fitzpatrick, Kelli Soesbe, Jennifer Newman, Brenda Haubrich, Becky Groshens, Emily Groshens and Ben Groshens; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Betty) Groshens of Oneida, Wis.; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, in 2000; his parents; and his sister, Doris Wilson.
