Arvana Boyd, 91, of Charles City, died Monday, November 11, 2013, at her home.

Funeral services for Arvana Boyd will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday at Bethany Alliance Church in Charles City. Pastors Kent Sovine and Mike Downey will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery rural Charles City.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday and again from 9-10:30 a.m. at the church on Saturday.

Arvana Lometa (Lockey) Boyd was born July 30, 1922 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Martha (Paisley) Lockey. The family moved to Bassett where Arvana hitchhiked to school in Charles City and Nashua. She graduated from Nashua High School in 1940. Arvana was united in marriage to William Duncan and this union was blessed with two children, Karen and James. The couple later divorced. Arvana moved to Charles City in 1946 and began working at Oliver/White Farm Equipment.

In 1953, Arvana married Clarence Boyd and the couple made their home in Charles City. She continued working at Oliver/White Farm until her retirement in 1976. Arvana was a member of Bethany Alliance Church and the Evangelical Free Church of Charles City. She enjoyed playing cards, camping and going for coffee with family and friends. Arvana was the best "professional grandma" anyone could ask for. She loved spending time with her own grandchildren, the church kids and neighborhood kids. Arvana was a hospice volunteer and a pink lady at the hospital.

Living family members include her son-in-law, Basil Law of Charles City; daughter-in-law, Kathy Duncan of Golden, Colo.; two brothers, Dale (Joyce) Lockey of Swan and Don Lockey of Hanford, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; Lockey cousins by the dozens; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence daughter, Karen Law; son, James Duncan; one great-grandson; four sisters: Bernadine Michael, Eleanor Klinkel, Evelyn Roethler and Martha Simerson; and two brothers: Lowell and Clifford Lockey.
