GREENE, IOWA - A Celebration of life service for Dean Kenneth Debner, 83, of Greene, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 25, 2013, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene, with Pastor Gary Hatcher officiating. Burial will be in the Westside Cemetery in Marble Rock, following the luncheon and fellowship.

Dean Kenneth Debner was born August 2, 1930, in Vilmar-rural Greene, Butler County, the son of Ferdinand Fred and Agnes Margaret (Abendroth) Debner and passed away Monday, October 14, 2013, at Liebe Care Center in Greene under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. He received his education in public school graduating at the age of 16 from Marble Rock High School

On November 27, 1949, Dean was united in marriage to Grace Tena Junker at Bennezette Wesleyan Church near Aredale. Dean served in the National Guard. He farmed and worked at Oliver (White Farm) and spent the last of his working years driving Winnebagos with a special love for the trip to Alaska, 3,330 miles (one way). He made that trip over 100 times. On August 10, 1994, Dean took the Polar Bear Plunge in Barrow, Alaska.

Dean never met anyone he considered a stranger. He was a “people person” with a great sense of humor and a quick wit. His stories and one liners will be treasured for years to come. Dean was an avid reader and especially enjoyed time spent with family and friends.

He is survived by his children: Gary (J.D.) Debner, Keosauqua; Sherry (Dave) Kubalsky, Marshalltown; Lyna Debner, Aurora, Colo.; sisters: Della Van Fleet, Cedar Falls; Marlene Gerholdt, Waterloo; his special friend Gen Ott of Greene; nine grandchildren: Shyla, Stephanie, Annette, Angie, Carl, Brad, Trina, Joshua and Jeremy; 11 great-grandchildren: Andrew, Ashton, Joseph, Aden, Christian, Lucas, Tyler, Allison, Brailee, Brody and Priya; many good friends.

Dean was preceded in death by his wife Grace in 1997; two brothers: Clarence and Lloyd; one sister, Viola.
