KILLED BY THE CARS

Henry Budde, Brakeman on the Illinois Central, Meets a Tragic Death at Glenville This Morning
The sad and shocking news was received here this morning that Henry Budde, a brakeman on the Illinois Central between Waterloo and Albert Lea, was instantly killed while making a coupling at Glenville, Minn., early this morning.

He was twenty-two years old and is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Budde and a brother of Mrs. D. S. Greenlees of this city, who are almost heart broken at hearing the terrible news. Further particulars will be given tomorrow.

William Gierman, Will Greenlees, E. McCarthy and Frank Mathews went to Glenville on the 12:15 train today and will bring the remains home, when arrangements for the funeral will be made.

THE LAST SAD RITES

All That Was Mortal of Henry Budde Tenderly Laid Away In the Silent City of the Dead.

The last sad duty of laying away the remains of Henry Budde took pace yesterday afternoon. The services were conducted at the family residence on Howland Street. The home could not accommodate only about half the number of friends who came to pay their last tribute of respect. Many stood in the yard and on the street who could not obtain entrance. A special train came up from Waterloo bring fifty friends of the deceased, among them were many employees of the Illinois Central Railroad.

At 2 o'clock the relatives entered the front parlor and took their places near the casket and Prof. F.E. Hirsch began the funeral service. The college quartette sand "Mourn Not' and Prof. Hirsch delivered the funeral sermon in which he paid a fitting tribute to the memory of the deceased and spoke words of comfort to the bereaved ones. The college quartette sang "Nearer My God To Thee" which concluded the service at the home.

The large concourse of people were then given an opportunity to take a last look at the remains. He lay in his casket as if sweetly sleeping, wearing the same smile that seldom left his face while living. In his hand he clasped a calla lily and we who looked upon the calm face of our young friend could not doubt the heavenly father had taken him home.

The pall bearers: Frank Mathews, James Barnett, Vivian Lindaman, John Freeland, Edward Kenerer and Fred Thurow, who are members of the fire department, conveyed the remains to the hearse and the procession started to the cemetery. Although it rained constantly many followed the remains to the cemetery, the fire department attended in a body.

The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful; among the tributes were a beautiful pillow of white roses by Mrs. and Mrs. M. Budde and Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Greenlees, a harp of white roses by Will, John, Marcia, and Florence Greenlees, a crescent by Mr and Mrs. Barton Stevens, a wreath of roses and emilax by the fire department, a large rose design by the B.P.O.E. and six young ladies of Waterloo sent a beautiful piece of white flowers. White bouquets of roses and carnations were sent by the following friends: Mrs C. H. Dillenbeck, Madames Reitz and Matghews, Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Dick, Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Jillson and Archie, Mr and Mrs. Myron Curtis, Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Fluent and daughter, Mrs. Ella Stange, Mr. and Mrs. A. Lichty, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Janes, Misses Beaumaster and Lizzie Mathews, C. W. Parker, Waterloo, Miss Zellhoefer and brother of Waterloo.

Mrs. Will Budde and little daughter and son, A. E. Budde and Mrs. Nichols of Milwaukee, were relatives of deceased and Miss Zellhofer, of Waterloo, a friend of the family, were in attendance at the funeral.
