CHARLES E. SHCAEFER PIONEER SETTLER OF FLOYD COUNTY PASSES AWAY
Charles E. Schaefer was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, on January 30th, 1871, and died at his home in Marble Rock at seven o'clock Thursday morning March 3rd.
Charles Schaefer came with his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Peter Schaefer, to Floyd County, Iowa, in the year 1879, where he spent the greater part of his life. In the year 1898 he united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Flood Creek and remained a faithful follower of his master until his death.
He was united in marriage with Miss Lina Stahl of Hazel, South Dakota. To this union one daughter, Frances, was born.
He leaves to mourn his loss his faithful wife and twelve-years-old daughter, six sisters, three brothers and many other relatives and friends. the sisters are Sarah of Cedar Rapids, Lydia of Omaha; Mary and Lizzie of Rockford, Julia of Marble Rock and Cora of Pearl City, Illinois. The brothers are: Will of Oak Park, Illinois, John of Bryant, S. Dakota; and Jake of Marble Rock. Two brothers died in infancy and one brother, Louis, died about a year ago.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: His sister Sarah of Cedar Rapids; his cousins Roy Schaefer and wife, Christian Schaefer and Ed Schaefer and daughter Mabel of Garner; Mrs. Schaefer's sister, Mrs. Charles Sour, of Hayti, So. Dak.; her sister-in-law, Mrs. Charles Halzworth, of Bryant, S. Dak., and her two brothers, William and Christian Stahl, of Midland, S. Dakota; and the Rev. and Mrs. John Daake and daughters, Esther and Ruth, of Pearl City, Illinois.
The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at the Flood Creek Church and was in the charge of Rev. Thiel of Charles City.
Mr. Shcaefer was a man respected by all who knew him and the bereaved ones have the sympathy of a host of friends. For several years Mr. Schaefer conducted a farm east of town but, his health failing, he with his family about two years ago moved to Marble Rock where he purchased a home on East Bradford street.
