ROSE - At his home in Minneapolis, Minn., Thursday, Dec. 18, 1894, Peter Rose in the 65th year of his age.

Deceased was an early settler in Charles City, coming here in 1860. He was born in Crieff, Scotland, April 15, 1830, the eldest of a family of seven children. When two years old he came with his parents to Canada and landed at Quebec after a voyage of six weeks. While in Canada he learned the wagon-maker's trade.

Mr. Rose came to Iowa in 1856 locating in Waterloo, where he constructed the first wagon made in Black Hawk county. One year later he went to Fort Atkinson, and there also made the first wagon. While there he was married, January 1, 1860, to his second wife, Miss Hattie Updike, a sister of Mrs. Boulton, Mrs. North and Mrs. Cruver, of this place. Of this union two children were born, Minnie C., of whom we recently made mention as the wealthy widow of a Russian Count and resides abroad; and Charles A., who for many years was a printer in this place, but of late years has resided in Minneapolis, we believe. The mother died Jan. 3. 1869, of consumption and is buried in Riverside.

In March 1872, Mr. Rose was married to Miss Lucretia Putney, who died in May 1874. He was married to Mrs. Mary B. Angell, April 21, 1877. She was the mother of E. I . and C. B. Angell of this place.

Some years later he moved to Minneapolis where his wife died about four years ago, and a year later he was married to his fifth wife who survives him and will accompany his remains to this place for burial.

His body is expected to arrive her this afternoon on the 4 o'clock train via Illinois Central. The funeral is announced to take place at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow from the residence of E. I. Angell, subject to change after the friend arrive. Interment in the family lot in Riverton.

Mr. Rose was well known by a large number of our people, especially the early settlers, to whom the news of his death will bring regret and sorrow.
