CLEAR LAKE, IOWA — Charles (Chuck) Thomas Jorgensen, 91, of Clear Lake was called home in the evening of August 26, 2013 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, to be with God, our heavenly Father, and Jesus Christ our Savior and redeemer.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 29, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, 508 2nd Ave N., Clear Lake with Rev. Bernie Colorado officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 5-7 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake. Interment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Family suggest memorials to the Clear Lake United Methodist Church.

Charles T. Jorgensen was born August 5, 1922, the son of Charles and Florence M. (Callanan) Jorgensen. His father was killed in an accident at the sand quarry before his birth. Florence died when Charles was nine months old. His grandfather died when Chuck was two years old. Meda Callanan, his grandmother, raised him alone.

Charles attended schools in Clear Lake, graduating in the class of 1942. After duty with the U.S. Army, he married Mary Collins in August 1945. They were married 25 years before her death in August 1970.

On June 8, 1973, Charles married Sharon (Martin) Sylvester, a widow from Charles City, and adopted her three girls, Sherri, Terri, and June. He was a wonderful father and husband. Chuck and Sharon celebrated their 40 blessed years together with a big family dinner and party on June 8 this year.

Chuck retired in 1982 from Clear Lake Farmers Co-op Elevator where he had been employed for 39 years. He was assistant manager and bookkeeper.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church since February 1946, Life member of Am Vets, and Life member of the American Legion (70 continuous years).

Chuck and Sharon belonged to Second Chance Sams camping group and enjoyed camping and traveling. They spent 28 winters in Donna, Texas. Chuck enjoyed time with his family and friends. He lived his whole life in Clear Lake.

Surviving Charles are his wife, Sharon, Clear Lake, daughter June (Glenn) Myers from Webster, Minn., five grandchildren, Shannon Cosgriff, Clear Lake; Heather Cosgriff, Nashua; and Christopher Cosgriff, Oelwein; Gary (Maddi) Myers, Crystal Lake, Minn.; and Kim (Donte) Perkins, Austin, Minn.; eight great-grandchildren, Allison and Angela Horn, Parker Bast, Sydnee and Clara Cosgriff, Charles Myers, and Nifaya and Caliyea Perkins; a sister-in-law, Mary Slifka, Cresco; and a brother-in-law, David Martin and his wife Elfriede of Olympia, Wash.; Two sons-in-laws, Eddie Schaff, Forest City and Brad Cosgriff, Clear Lake and also numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his first wife, Mary, his daughter Sherri Cosgriff in 1998, his daughter Terri Schaff in 2009, his father-in-law Charles Martin in 2003, his mother-in-law Martha Martin in 2006, and a great grandson Jason Michael Cosgriff in 1999.

Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.
