FLOYD, IOWA — Delbert “Dean” Vokes, 92, of Floyd, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Paul Phillips of the Gospel Lighthouse will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the funeral home 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and an hour prior to services Friday.

The Hauser Funeral Home, 641-228-2323, in Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.

Delbert "Dean" Vokes, 92, of Floyd, died Monday, August 12, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services for Dean Vokes will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Paul Phillips of the Gospel Lighthouse will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday an hour prior to the service.

Delbert Dean Vokes was born June 2, 1921 in Sheffield, the son of Lester and Mabel (Selix) Vokes. He received his education at Rockford. On August 24, 1940, he was united in marriage to Maxine Stegen. Dean worked at Oliver/White Farm Equipment Company for many years. He was a member of the UAW and served as a union steward.

For 23 years he was mayor of Floyd. Dean helped to establish the Floyd Community Center, Floyd Dollars for Scholars and organized the Floyd Fun Days. He was an avid reader. For three generations he was the "candy man" of Floyd. Dean enjoyed sharing his life with his children and their families and took special pride in the fact that he had 50 grandchildren.

Living family members include three children, Bill (Janet) Vokes of Floyd, Deanna (Duane) Alcott of Sheffield and Judy (Eric) Lien of Rockford; nine grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife on February 15, 2006; two brothers; and four sisters.
