Karen Fleming, 48, of Floyd died Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Karen Fleming will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Gospel Lighthouse in Floyd. Pastors Paul Phillips and Greg Robbins will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at Floyd. Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Karen Ann Scopetski Fleming was born January 7, 1965, in Worcester, Massachusetts, the daughter of Dr. Peter and Eileen (Dowd) Scopetski. Karen graduated from Algonquin Regional High School in Northborough, Mass., with the class of 1983. In high school she played with the Greater Boston Youth Symphony. After graduating from high school, she received a music scholarship for playing the viola and studied music at Hartt School of Music in West Hartford, Conn. On May 17, 1986, she was united in marriage to Mark Fleming in Farmington, Conn. In 1990, the couple moved to Floyd. Karen was a gifted musician and as an adult played in amateur and professional orchestras, including the Cheslea Creek String Quartet in Mason City. She taught music lessons and worked with her husband at their music store—Mark’s Music Studio, where she was employed at the time of her passing. Karen was a faithful member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Floyd. She was a member of their praise team and will be greatly missed. In her spare time Karen enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Karen loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all of her heart and is now rejoicing in heaven. All of those who loved her know Heaven’s orchestra is sweeter because she is there.

Living family members include her husband, Mark Fleming of Floyd; four children, Bethany Fleming of Floyd, Priscilla Fleming of Hamilton, Ala., Elizabeth Fleming of Floyd and Daniel Fleming of Floyd; her mother Eileen Scopetski of Massachusets; her father Dr. Peter Scopetski of Mass.; three brothers, Stephen (Karen) Scopetski, Kevin (Karen) Scopetski and Neal (Beth) Scopetski all of Massachusets; two sisters, Jean Borkowski from Mich. and Susan (Rodney) Snyder from Virginia.
