Rockford, Iowa — Clarence H. “Rex” Theilen, 74, of Rockford, died Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, where military honors will be provided by the Mason City Veterans.

Visitation and public viewing will be held Monday evening, July 15, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel and will continue one hour prior to Rex’s service on Tuesday.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Rex’s name the the American Cancer Society.

Obituary for Clarence H. "Rex" Theilen

Clarence (Rex) Henry Theilen was born in a small farm house in rural Rockford, Iowa, on October 7, 1938, to Harry and Bessie Theilen. He attended elementary school in a one-room school house. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November of 1957 and served his country on the USS Boyd DD 544 until he was honorably discharged in May of 1962 and then continued in the Navy reserves for several years.

After marrying the love of his life, Barbara Miller on January 11, 1959, at Morgan Methodist Church, rural Dows, Iowa, Rex spent his working career at Blue Ribbon Beef, Libbey Owens Ford, Northwestern Cement, and retired from the Mine, Safety, and Health Administration, Department of Labor, as an electrical inspector in 2002. He enjoyed watching and raising purple martins, playing his guitar and singing, was fascinated with astrology, attending Navy re-unions, watching Nascar and the Minnesota Vikings and most of all his five beautiful grandchildren.

Rex is survived by his wife, Barbara, children Dawn Humburg and husband Keith, Humboldt, Debbie Dow and husband Jim, Rockford, grandchildren Dustin Humburg, Keslie Humburg, Dylan Humburg, Marcus Dow and Sabrina Dow. He is also survived by his sister, Ruby Hammje and husband Marlin.

Clarence will be laid to rest in a Celebration of Life ceremony at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. with a short reception and burial following the ceremony. Visitation will be held prior to the ceremony from on Monday, July 15, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel.

Donations may be made in Rex’s memory to The American Cancer Society.
