NORA SPRINGS, IOWA — William “Bill” Gast, age 85, of rural Nora Springs, died Thursday, July 11, 2013, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 15, at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, 3269 Foothill Ave., Osage, with Pastor David A. Werges and Diaconal Minister Elayne J. Werges officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

William “Bill” Gast, age 85, of rural Nora Springs, died Thursday, July 11, 2013, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, 3269 Foothill Avenue, Osage, Iowa, with Pastor David A. Werges and Diaconal Minister Elayne J. Werges officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Bill was born on August 10, 1927, to Clifford and Alma (Paulson) Gast on the family farm in West Cedar Township. He graduated from Osage High School in 1945 and began farming with his dad on the farm that has been in the Gast family since 1884. On March 8, 1947, he married Colleen Kathan at the Congregational Church in Osage. To this union six children were born. Bill and Colleen continued to live on the family farm until 1982. At that time they moved to an acreage one mile south where he lived until his death on July 11th.

Bill was a member of Rock Creek Lutheran Church his entire life where he was baptized and confirmed. He was a lifelong farmer and also worked at Armour in Mason City for several years.

Family, faith and farming were his life. Bill cherished spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He especially enjoyed attending their sporting events. He also enjoyed many trips out west to visit family.

Bill is survived by his wife, Colleen; his children, Susan (Jim) Stiverson, Jeanne (Dick) Dahley, Tom (Linda) Gast, Jim (Patty) Gast, Bob (LuAnn) Gast, and Cindy (Dean) Sponheim; grandchildren, Kathy Daley, Julie Theophanes, Sara Cox, Lorie Tesch, Jolene Dixon, Amy Carter, Jaren Wieland, Nicki Prantner, Eric Gast, Robin Morrison, Cliff Gast, Beth Gast, Alma Gast, Grace Gast, Josh Sponheim and Erin Bremer; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marlys (Clarence) Wegman; sisters-in-law, Lyla Gast and Marcy Kathan; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Pam Gast; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyndon (Beatrice) Gast, George (Violette) Gast and Dick Gast; and brothers-in-law, Greg and Charlie Kathan.
