Death: July 10, 2013

Service Date: Monday, July 15, 2013 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Donald "Don" Stewart, 80, of Charles City, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral Mass for Don Stewart will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Floyd.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 3-6 p.m. Sunday where there will be a Rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 5:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Donald Ora Stewart was born February 22, 1933, near Floyd, the son of Mervyn and Bessie (Hennick) Stewart. He was raised in the Floyd area graduating from Floyd High School. After graduation, Don joined the Navy and served on a tanker ship for four years. While serving his country in the Navy Don was awarded with the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the China Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. When Don returned home he began working at White Farm where he was employed for 25 years.

On May 16, 1964, he was united in marriage to Elayne Anderson at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. The couple made their home in Floyd where all of their children were born, moved to Charles City, to a farm near Colwell and back to Charles City. Don also worked at Allied for 18 years before his retirement in 1998. Don was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the VFW. "Donnie" was a great father, good farmer, enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, camping and loved to spend time with his family and his cat, Smokey.

Living Family members include his wife of 49 years, Elayne of Charles City; son, Rodney (Sue) Stewart of Charles City; three daughters: Teresa (Doug) Pierce of Floyd, Sally (Clarence) Marvin of Charles City and Sara (Kevin) Hemann of Charles City; six grandchildren: Valerie (Eric) Johnson, Dustin Pierce (friend Ashley Fischer), Tony Hemann, Rachel Sullivan, Ryan Hemann and Jordan Sullivan; ten step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers: Truman (Juanita) Stewart of Charles City, Wilbur (Dorothy) Stewart of Charles City and Gordon (Mable) Stewart of Floyd; three sisters: June Leaman of Rudd, Mary Stansberry of Littleton, Colorado and Norma (Vernon) Wamsley of Elkhart, Indiana; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ruby Thorson.
