RUDD, IOWA, Jan. 9 - Funeral services for Charles Nienstedt, 99, Rudd's oldest resident, who died here at the home of his son, Charles, last Sunday afternoon, were held at the Methodist Episcopal church Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. George W. Turner, local minister, officiating.

Mr. Nienstedt was born in Gosler, Province of Hanover, Germany, September 22, 1830, and lived there while a youth. He studied the American language while a student there; with the intention of sometime coming to this country, and November 12, 1849, he set sail for this country, and arrived in New York City on January 16, 1850, where he engaged in business the next five years.

He was united in marriage with Miss Eleanor Blacklidge of Long Island, Nov. 11, 1855. To this union was born nine children, six boys, Augusta, Howard, Carl, Ben, Jesse, and Charles, and three daughters, Rachael Ann, Addie, and Nellie, Seven of whom have preceded him in death. In 1856 the family came to Dubuque, and the following spring took over some government land near Cresco, but soon returned to Dubuque, where Mr. Nienstedt went into the store business. In 1886, the family came to Rudd and Mr. Nienstedt had made this place his home up until the time of his death, except for a few years in Woodstock, Illinois, and at Devonia.

Death came as a result of a fall on December 20, when he broke two ribs on his right side, the ribs penetrating his lungs and causing pneumonia. He leaves two sons, Charles of this place, with whom he had made his home for many years, and Jesse of Huntington Park, California, besides other relatives. Burial was made in Evergreen cemetery northwest of Rudd by the side of his wife who preceded him in death many years ago.
